Michael Lewandowski began playing the drums at age 17. With not much formal music training he joined the SUNY Plattsburgh Jazz Ensemble and SUNY Symphonic Band where he began his journey learning how to read and perform music.
He earned a Writing degree and Music Minor at SUNY Plattsburgh in 2001. While working as manager for the Adirondack Youth Orchestra he realized he wanted to teach music but lacked the credentials to do so.
He then went to Athens, Ohio and completed a Music Education Degree in 2006. While studying music Education he maintained a busy performance schedule in as many genres of music as possible. He is well versed in Rock and Roll, Blues, Jazz, Orchestral, World Music, etc.
Currently he teaches music at the Alburgh Community Education Center in Alburgh, VT and performs with the Latin Thugtet, Adirondack Jazz Orchestra, and the Adirondack Wind Ensemble. He has performed and shared the stage with Jerry Lavene, Dave Grippo, Sam Furnace, Chocolate, Ethos Percussion Group, Zip City Blues Band, Jamey Haddad, CJ Chenier and the Red Hot Louisiana Band, Roy Hurd, Allen Vizzuti, John Fedchock, and many other fine players too numerous to count.
